Tri-City Family Place drop-in tries to provide a safe warm environment for children to play and adults to relax with a friend or play with their children.

Peanut Free Zone

The playroom has well maintained equipment that meets all safety standards and replaces or removes toys and equipment that gets broken.

Equipment is purchased that provides play time for children of a variety of ages. Equipment that is designed for the older child is kept in storage until requested.

All our toys are washed on a rotation basis by our volunteers or as needed if a child is sick.

Carpets are cleaned at least twice per year.

The centre will close and be completely cleaned if there is an outbreak that the Health Department needs to be notified of.

Parents are asked to notify the centre if their child becomes ill and has been at Family Place within the week. Example: if a child gets chicken pox.

The staff will request that a child go home or to the doctor if we have a concern about the health or a child or parent.

All staff has a First Aid Certificate that includes CPR and a first aid kit is kept in the staff storage of the kitchen. This kit does go to Park Days and events that happen out-side of Family Place.

Two emergency buckets are hanging in the playroom for easy access in emergencies that have any blood.

Two staff has a Food Safe certificate and the Health Department has issued a license for serving food on Party Days and Hot Dog Days. We are allowed 14 such events per year. Other than hot dogs, no food is prepared on site.

Children are asked to not run within the program to help avoid accidents.

Children are required to remove their shoes before playing in the ball crawl.

WCB has outlined that the staff must wear rubber soled shoes. To date we have not had a WCB claim for a staff accident.

To date we have not filed an accident report to Public Health. We have been closed twice for cleaning.

We limit 25 families to be at Family Place at any one time to make sure the space does not get too crowded.

Parents must sign-in. If an emergency arises or a contagious illness breaks out we must know the number of families to account for or notify.

A door that can be opened by only a person over 4 feet tall to ensure that no child can leave the safety of the playroom without an adult.
